Week 16: Pauline & Jon's Weight Loss Diary

Pauline – end of week 16

How I’m feeling:
I am feeling a lot more positive than last week - I have really got my motivation back to stick with the programme

Weight loss update:
I lost 1.5 kilos this week which means in total I have now lost more than 2 and a half stone!

Biggest challenge in the last week:
I haven’t really missed not being able to drink alcohol but with the sun shining this week I felt so tempted. Fortunately, I have been experimenting with alcohol free options, so I satisfied myself with some iced sparkling water laced with fresh fruit. So, refreshing!

Biggest success in the last week:
We completed our first 10km this weekend which not only is a huge achievement in itself but we actually really enjoyed it.

Jon – end of week 16

How I’m feeling:
I have been feeling so unwell for the majority of the week that I haven’t been able to do much more than just be in bed. To be honest I felt quite miserable but am feeling a lot better now.

Weight loss update:
Due to being sick I was unable to attend my treatment so I can’t update you beyond reminding you that I have lost more than 3 and a half stone so far.

Biggest challenge in the last week:
Pushing myself to go out for a walk after not feeling able to move. I reckon that before the diet I would have used this as an excuse – but having lost weight I have so much more energy. I can see that being slimmer and healthier has helped me recover really quickly.

Biggest success in the last week:
As Pauline has said, being able to enjoy walking 10km feels awesome.

This week I’ve been feeling awful. The almost overwhelming temptation to use comfort food when I was feeling so sorry for myself was huge and believe me I struggled! But Pauline was a great support reminding me how far I had come on the programme and how I would feel if I did give up, even temporarily. This was a major challenge for me and a real game-changer in my thinking.

I can’t believe I am saying this but “The main substitute for temptation is exercise.”

This weekend Pauline and I have been out for 2 long walks – both over 10k – we enjoyed the sunshine and just being outside.  The fresh air and all the early signs of spring curbed the cravings I had for comfort food – I am now finding that if I plan what I will eat after exercising then it is so much easier to manage any feelings of hunger

I know that when I am feeling under the weather, exercise would be the last thing on my mind. However, for the first time in my life I found comfort in a long walk and fresh air – I have asked Pauline to remind me of this since I think it may take some practice for this to be an automatic response!

I am delighted to share that we have done 2 long walks (for us) this weekend which not only was a great accomplishment, but really pleasing to find an activity that we can enjoy doing together. It has got us both thinking about how many lovely places there are to explore there are in Aberdeen. I can see a photo diary album in the making. As well as the walking I have now signed up to try Figure of 8. This is a programme which includes various fitness workouts using different methods of dance. It popped up as an ad on social media and after doing some research I thought this could be a great way to increase my fitness by doing something I enjoy. It sounds so obvious really, but I know I am much more likely to commit to regular exercise if it is fun so I am excited to get started on that this week.
